After saying “I can’t believe this month is over!” five times this year, we’ve reached June.
It doesn’t matter how your year has been up till now. You have a new opportunity to answer this exciting question:
How do you want to show up THIS month?
I personally love it.
I love to take time at the beginning of each month to see how the previous one was and to set my goals and intentions for the new one.
This is where you might say, “But isn’t there an element of dread involved when you look at what you wanted to do in the previous month and see you haven’t done everything on that list?”
Oh, it’s definitely there.
It’s not dread exactly, but an honest “OK, I haven’t done everything, that’s true…” comment is usually there.
Or, as I push myself to see it, an opportunity for self-compassion.
But so is the opposite there: a reminder of what I have done, seen, and experienced. A list of friends I’ve reached out to, a book I’ve read, the small steps in my creative projects (like this one!), and the efforts I’ve put to move forward in the areas that matter to me.
As June is starting, I encourage you to imagine how meaningful it could be.
When you look back at it in 30 days, what would you like to see?
How would you like to have move forward?
What knowledge to deepen?
Which habits to strengthen?
Which friends to reach out to? (Or what friendships to end? 😱)
What to forgive yourself for?
And, just as importantly, how do you want to have shown up?
Thirty days is not nothing. And your life is not nothing.
It’s not about productivity or pushing yourself to monetise what you do.
It’s about using the time in a way YOU want to use it.
But to do that, you have to first of all know what it is and be intentional.
This is what I’m wishing you (and myself!) today ❤️
Justina

On Fascist Regimes, The Heaviness of Interconnectedness, And Living Standing Up
With fascism on the rise, I share an extended metaphor with you that might be a reminder you were looking for. To keep on going, to keep on speaking out, and to keep on showing up for what matters.

Fascism has never been a thing of the past; now, to disregard it means to disengage from reality. As international law has crumbled, Israel is still destroying Gaza, and masked agents are snatching people of the streets in the U.S., I invite you to ask yourself how you choose to show up in this reality.

In addition to the small lies, there are definitely the big ones. This short blog posts is about one of them — or, rather, about a type of inquiry you might want to make time for this end of year.

“Let everything burn, except your desire to fight” – my year started with this writing that I saw in a beautiful graffiti project. It turns out, no matter how lovely this metaphor, the process itself can be quite heavy. And if your end of year doesn’t feel necessarily light, my piece is definitely for you.

I start a new season of Investigative Selfism by sharing a metaphor with you that appeared in a form of something very domestic. I dedicate this essay to everyone whose hearts might need some compassion this end of year.

Don’t abandon your precious self. That’s mostly it! But examples, silly jokes, and more encouragement is in my video/podcast episode, that inevitably has a political dimension.
